Hammers take 3rd as Edwards wins Individual

The Thurrock AsMATT Hammers concluded a busy weekend of racing, narrowly finishing third behind the Norwich Stars in the Three Team Tournament at Iwade. Hosts, the Kent Eagles took the team trophy with 35 points, with the Stars on 28 and the Hammers on 27.

Hammers Number 1 Jason Edwards took the individual Riders trophy scorching from the start to lead the previously undefeated Edward Kennett home. Former Hammer Ben Morley took third place.

Hammers Director Mark Sexton commented:

“Well, that was a lot of fun! A perfect way to help the Kent Eagles finish off their season. At the end of the day, a third place finish wasn’t what was planned, but the quality of the racing made up for any disappointment at the result.

Jason Edwards was his usual sublime self, going through the card unbeaten after a first race defeat by Eddie Kennett and the reliable partnership of Ben Whalley and Alex Spooner certainly made the opposition work for every point. The Laker ‘boys’ both gave their all but it wasn’t quite enough to see us overhaul the Norwich Stars to take second spot.

Congratulations to the Kent Eagles who thoroughly deserved to win the meeting and thanks, as ever, to all the Iwade staff, volunteers and officials for their help!”

Our thanks again to all of the riders who have donned the Crossed Hammers bib over the last two days, and all of our supporters and sponsors, with a special mention to Dave & Kim Francis from AsMATT Ltd for their invaluable support.
